Google have officially announced, that they have bought Quickoffice – quite a popular free office suite, which allows for not only viewing but also editing documents and other office files created by programs such as Microsoft Office. The reason behind this purchase is most likely going to be to improve their own Google Docs program, not only as functionality, but also as user friendliness – as a multi-platform application, which is available for Android, Symbian and iOS, Quickoffice is more optimized for usage on some platforms, for which Google Docs may not be so easy to use.

The application however also has a Pro version, which is paid and brings additional functionality to the table, so it’s going to be interesting to see if Google are going to keep to this sort of a distribution model or make all of the features available to everyone. B. A.
