The ASUS Padfone
|
Like a lot of people, we are expecting most companies to show off Tegra 3 smartphones at CES 2012 and even though this has not been officially confirmed, according to some sources, ASUS are finally going to demonstrate a working Padfone, which is going to be powered by Nvidia’s next-generation processor at the mobile congress in Barcelona this February. According to previous rumors, the device was going to rely on a Qualcomm Krait S4 processor, but it seems ASUS have decided to use the Tegra 3 instead.
The interesting device is actually a combination of a smartphone and a tablet (hence the name Padfone) and consists of two parts: a fully functioning smartphone and a tablet “dock” in which you place the phone.
By using this “dock” you gain a few extra hours in battery life, a larger display and a few other features. The Padfone was initially supposed to hit the market in time for the Christmas holidays, but it seems ASUS have changed their plans. B. A.
