Samsung working on an iPad-killer
|
Even though there is currently a lawsuit going on between Apple and Samsung, it seems that the Koreans aren’t waiting around doing nothing – quite to the contrary, the technological giant is currently working on what could turn out to be the best tablet we’ve seen so far. According to the rumors, the P10 – under which code-name the device is currently known, might appear by the end of the year, though its specifications are certainly more impressive than anything we’ve seen so far. Starting with the display – with its 11,8″ diagonal and WQXGA resolution (which means 2560х1600 pixels) , it’s going to be larger than the iPad’s display, though keeping the same pixel density (256 ppi on the Samsung versus 264 ppi on Apple’s device).
The real treat, though, is certainly the processor – supposedly an Exynos 5, which, although just dual-core, is more than capable. The SoC, which was actually just shown off a few days ago, relies on a Mali-T604 GPU, with the help of which it is able to play 1080p HD video with 60fps – quite impressive. According to Samsung the Cortex-A15 cores, which are running in the Exynos 5 are up to 1,5 – 2 times faster than the Cortex-A9 ones, which the NVIDIA Tegra has to make do with. There’s still no work on the software side of the tablet, but then again Samsung currently has two options to choose from – Android and Windows 8, though it’s very likely to release (almost) identical versions of the tablet with both platforms.
