RIM have already denied all kinds of rumors, about the possibility of releasing the BlackBerry Messenger – one of their most distinguishing features, for any other platforms, but a few months later it turned out, that such a project may have actually existed under the code name SMS2.0. According to the Wall Street Journal, which has published some interesting information regarding these rumors, the company’s new CEO was the main reason for all work on the project to be abandoned. The idea about multi-platform versions of BBM has actually been a part of the company’s strategy to keep some of their market share and remain popular among their users during this hard period, they’re going through. Still, now more than ever, RIM’s hope for a brighter future is relying on the success of the next version of their platform – the BlackBerry OS 10, which is expected to arrive by the end of the year, in a few months.
