$199 Quad-core NVIDIA tablets on their way
|
Recently the CEO of NVIDIA stated in an interview for the New York Times, that we might see Tegra 3 tablet for under $200 as soon as this summer and it turns out he might just be right. The company has announced, that they’re currently working on suc a device with the code name Kai, which is going to be an attempt to provide the power and performance of their quad-core Tegra 3 chip in a much cheaper gadget, be it a smartphone, tablet or whatnot. Their strategy includes an attack on the quad-core tablet market with a $199 competitor, which is also going to run Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich – a hard combination to beat.
The chip itself isn’t going to be the same as the Tegra 3, but the two are going to share a large number of features. The Kai however is going to be additionally optimized for a lower price and, happily, lower energy-consumption. There’s also the possibility for the Kai to be used in the rumored Google tablet, which may be revealed at the Google I/O conference. B. A.
