Motorola have finally unveiled their new smartphone – the Droid RAZR and to be honest it doesn’t come as a big surprise. Still it’s very impressive – it’s got a 1.2 gHz processor (a TI OMAP 4430) and 1GB of RAM. The screen is a 4.3″ qHD Super AMOLED – first of its kind and looks great. The most important thing about the phone, though, is its design – it has a lightweight 7.1 mm thick body and is well protected from drops with its laser-cut Kevlar back and Gorilla glass on the front. It also uses a nanotechnology called Splash Guard, which protects the device and its electronics form water. Some of the other features are an 8MP camera, recording Full HD 1080p video and a 1800 mAh battery, which is enough for up to 12.5 hours of talking-time or 8.9 hours of videos – impressive. The device is going to hit the market in the early November.

The other device, launched by Motorola – the MotoActv, is aimed at athletes and fitness fans. It relies on a watch form-factor and has a shock- and waterproof body and a 1.6″ Gorilla glass touchscreen. The device acts as both a music player (it chooses the music for you, based on your activity) and a heart-rate monitor. Of course the device also acts as a GPS receiver and you can connect it to your mobile phone, in order to use it to receive incoming calls or texts. It’ll be sold in the US from 06.11 for $249 (8GB version) or $299 (16GB version). B. A.
