As expected, Apple revealed the next generation of the iPad at their event yesterday. The device is actually called “iPad” – without any numbers or letters, and is pretty much what we expected, according to the rumors. The display is a high-resolution one (or as Apple calls such displays – Retina) at 2047×1536 pixels, which to be honest sounds a bit too much – why would you need 50% more pixels than most modern TVs have on a 9.7″ screen? In order to render this many pixels, Apple have also had to upgrade the chip – the (new) iPad 3 (iPad HD) relies on an A5X SoC, which consists of a dual-core processor and a quad-core GPU and is supposed to be 4 times as powerful as the one in the iPad 2.
