The rumors have turned out to be true – Sony are indeed going to buy Ericsson’s 50% share and become the only owner of Sony Ericsson. This will allow Sony to quickly integrate smartphones in their line of devices – tablets, laptops and TVs. Sony will also acquire intellectual property from Ericsson and 5 groups of patents, considered important for their mobile phone business. Ericsson on the other hand will focus on wireless technologies and the ways to benefit from them. The companies became partners ten years ago on 01.10.2001 and the end of this relationship is expected to come in January 2012. B. A.
