The German court ruled, that Microsoft are infringing Motorola’s patents
|
The court in Mannheim, Germany, has banned the distribution of what are practically Microsoft’s most popular products – Windows 7, Internet Explorer, Windows Media Player and even their Xbox 360 game console, in the country. The reason for this radical decision is the fact, that with those products, the software giant is infringing Motorola’s patents over the H.264 codec. According to information from FOSS Patents, the ban is not going to be active immediately and, meanwhile, the European Union is investigating Motorola for possible patent abuse, so the whole case may end up in Microsoft’s favor. The have, on the other hand, said, that Motorola has no rights to force the execution of the judgment and that they’re going to fight back. B. A.
