The first Windows Phone 8 devices are hitting the stores now and just after that a new version of Skype appeared on the Marketplace. The application is still not in the final version, but offers the familiar functionality with which we are accustomed. One of its main features is the ability to run in the background with reduced power consumption mode, similar to that one available in the Windows 8 for PC. So now users can be constantly online (may be hidden if desired) without worrying about their phone’s battery.
Skype for Windows Phone 8 of course supports video calls, and thanks to the more powerful new hardware used by the Microsoft’s platform this feature now works better than ever. According to the WPCentral, the application works very well and all Skype incoming calls are displayed as a normal mobile calls. The new version of Skype for Windows Phone 8 can be downloaded from the official store of the platform, but may not be visible from all countries yet. If you do not see it in the store, you can speed up the process by loading this link directly from your phone.
