Skype 1.0 supports devices with Windows Phone 7.5 and offers voice and video calls over Wi-Fi or 3G connection. Among the new features is the option to search and add contacts and calls to fixed phones. Sadly, the app cannot work in the background, so it can be used only when its open. Other features are an option for video calls in portrait mode and additional options for managing contacts as acceptance of invitations, blocking and unblocking. So far, it seems that the new version of Skype is not available for low-end devices with Windows Phone Tango and 256MB RAM (the app requires 512MB of RAM). However, this can be fixed in the next version.

Microsoft is expected to integrate Skype more seriously in the next version of its mobile platform – Windows Phone 8. According to a recent information, Skype will continue to exist as a standalone application, and we are hoping to get the missing function to work in the background – this is already available in a few apps such as Tango.
