For quite some time, now Texas Instruments (known by smartphone users for their OMAP processor in Android and Windows Mobile devices) have been the number one smartphone processor maker, up until Q4 of 2010. According to a statistic from Strategy Analytics as of Q4 2010, Qualcomm has taken the first position and has been holding it steadily so far. Qualcomm’s success is largely due to the number of Android devices using their chips and of course, all of the first-gen Windows Phone 7 devices which had the Snapdragon in them. Overall, the company holds 30% of the smartphone processor market.
