Panasonic demonstrating WiGig
|Wireless Networking at Gigabit Speeds – Panasonic WiGig SD Memory Card
Panasonic introduced the WiGig wireless data transfer technology way back in 2009, but making it practically usable has proven difficult. The company is still working on ways to bring the technology into our everyday lives and recently, they demonstrated one of them – sending a DVD movie (4.7GB) from a tablet to a car media center in just 60 seconds – quite an impressive achievement. WiGig works in the 60HZ spectrum and has limited range – from 1m to 3m, so it’s not going to be a substitute for WiFi. Panasonic are hoping to release SD cards featuring WiGig as early as next summer and also to implement it in smartphones as soon as possible. B. A.
