Google Maps for Android with caching and 3D support
|Google is prepared to release a new version of Google Maps for Mobile for the Android platform. The new version of Maps will load more information onto the device and cache it there in case connectivity is interrupted or lost altogether. The software will go as far as preloading map data for areas where users transit most often, and can be used even when the device is fully offline. The maps will be simpler, and use less data than before. Maps’ navigation function will also be enabled for offline use and will be able to re-route lost users back to their route. Google is also adding 3D data to the maps of some 100 cities around the world. Android device users will be able to change the point of view in these cities and see the local buildings and landscape rendered in 3D.
