BlackBerry has played a lead role in the London havoc
|Even though social networks such as Facebook and Twitter are partly responsible for the organization of the recent riots in London, another technology has palyed a greater role. It turns out that the organization was mainly done using BlackBerry’s – BBMessenger to be exact. According to the Guardian 37% of British teens own a BlackBerry and the main reason they’re used so much is BlackBerry Messenger – it’s a free way to send messages to every other BB owner instantly. What made it particularly good for organizing the riots, though,is the fact that the messages are encrypted and can’t be tracked by the authorities. Meanwhile, RIM are in a rather uncomfortable position and they’ve promised to aid the police, though it’s still unknown exactly how they’re going to do that. B.A.
