AdBlock Plus, which is one of the most popular add-ons for Firefox and Chrome, finally is available for Android OS. The app can be downloaded for free from the Google Play Store and you will need a device with at least Android 2.1 or later.
Unlike the desktop version, which simply and effectively blocks any ads, AdBlock Plus for Android is different. If you want to get rid of all ads, you must meet two requirements: to have a Root access and to use the built-in browser or Chrome.
If you don’t have a Root access and do not want to violate the warranty on your phone, the situation is a little bit more complicated. AdBlock Plus will block the ads, but only if you are using internet via WiFi connection and only if the version of Android is 3.1 or later. There is a solution for the owners of phones with older versions of the Google’s operating system, but it requires manual configuration of the program, detailed instructions can be found here.
AdBlock Plus for Android has some other restrictions that are imposed by the structure of Android. For example, websites that uses SSL encryption will not be filtered and Firefox users will need to download an additional plugin for their browsers.
