US Congress Looking Into Protection of the Private Data From Applications

After the recent problem with iOS applications, which secretly store data about the users, became public, the US Congress has decided to take things into their own hands and look into the situation. Currently the problem isn’t with the applications publishing information about the users, but they do collect and store it without their permission. First of all, the Congress turned to Apple and requested information about the ways they protect their customers’ private data. The company’s answer, though, seems to have been unacceptable, because the research continues. According to TheNextWeb, Apple aren’t the only ones, who are being questioned.

Quite to the contrary, the Congress has sent such letters to 34 other companies, which have uploaded applications in the “Social Networks” section of the App Store. The companies, among which are Twitter, Tweetbot, FoodSpotting, Turntable.fm, Trover, Instagram, Path, Facebook and Soundcloud, have to provide information about the ways in which they provide protection for their users. One of the companies (Tweetbot) has even posted the whole letter online – you can find it at http://www.scribd.com/doc/86365421/Haddad-Jardine-Tweetbot-2012-3-22 . B. A.

BlackBerry has played a lead role in the London havoc

Even though social networks such as Facebook and Twitter are partly responsible for the organization of the recent riots in London, another technology has palyed a greater role. It turns out that the organization was mainly done using BlackBerry’s – BBMessenger to be exact. According to the Guardian 37% of British teens own a BlackBerry and the main reason they’re used so much is BlackBerry Messenger – it’s a free way to send messages to every other BB owner instantly. What made it particularly good for organizing the riots, though,is the fact that the messages are encrypted and can’t be tracked by the authorities. Meanwhile, RIM are in a rather uncomfortable position and they’ve promised to aid the police, though it’s still unknown exactly how they’re going to do that. B.A.

Twitter for Android gets update

February 11th, 2011 No Comments   Posted in Android OS, Freeware, News, Software

Fantastic news for all Twitter users on Android. The popular social network has in fact made available the new version of its client for Android phones.

Lots of news in this version, from completely revamped user interface and more like the new layout of the social networking site. The program also now works, in part, even if you have not registered, while still allowing you to view trends, look at the tweets related to their interests, or search for people and topics you want to know more about. Twitter for Android now allows, among other things, to register directly from the phone.

The search has now been made universal, and allows you to simultaneously search the term you are looking for, that tweet written by people in the area, finally, those whose name includes the term. It’s not over, since it is now possible to scan your contacts, looking for those who are already on Twitter. Not bad, all you need is to have a smartphone with Android release 2.1 or higher.
