Gingerbread ported to Xperia X8

March 19th, 2011 2 Comments   Posted in Android OS, News

If you are an Xperia X8 owner, now you have a good reason to get smile on your face, since the XDA developer jerpelea is doing an excellent job – porting Android Gingerbread to Xperia X8!

The dev managed to get a rather good and stable build of CyanogenMod 7 running on the SonyEricsson Xperia X8 . Of course, not everything still works perfectly, but the results are still more than good, so that the phone is already almost used in the normal manner.

For more information check out the appropriate thread on XDA – here.

December 7th, 2010 No Comments   Posted in Android OS, Hacks, News

This is a very early testing build of Android Gingerbread for Droid Eris, basically its for playing with only! Don’t expect it to work, be fast, or be useful for any reason.

  • Data/Radio work, but in-call MIC doesn’t.
  • Radio likes to crash.
  • Many other things like to crash too.

LG Optimus 7

December 3rd, 2010 2 Comments   Posted in News, Reviews, Windows Phone 7 Series

The LG Optimus 7 is an excellent cellphone that runs on Microsoft’s Windows Phone 7. The phone’s 3.8 inch color touchscreen allows you to get the most out of using this phone. Its camera is capable of capturing five megapixel still images and 720p HD videos. The battery life for this phone is pretty good. It can last for seven days on standby or provide eight hours of talk time. This phone also has several features which make it quite special. Those features are Play To, Voice to Text and Scan Search.

One of the biggest problems with most phones is trying to share any type of content. Although all cellphones are wireless, the majority of them simply won’t communicate properly with other devices. While sharing a single file seems like it would be simple enough to do, attempting to do this with many phones will result in you giving up before ever completing the task. What makes the Optimus 7 different is it has implemented a way to share content that actually is simple. This LG phone allows you quickly send music, pictures and video to nearby devices. This type of content can be sent to any DLNA-capable device. This means that you can wirelessly send content from your phone to your computer, TV or XBox 360. The reason this feature is so easy to use is because you simply choose what you want to send and where you want to send it. With a few taps on the touchscreen, you can send content where you want it to go.

The next feature that make this a great phone is Voice to Text. The touchscreen of this phone makes it fairly easy to type text messages or short emails. However, there may be times when you need to use your phone to type a longer document as quickly as possible. The Optimus 7 allows you to do this by using its Voice to Text feature. With the help of this feature, you can quickly dictate what you want to say. Even if you don’t need to create a long document, this feature can come in quite handy when you’re in a situation where you need to get something down but can’t use your hands.

The other top feature of the LG Optimus 7 is Scan Search. Searching may not sound like a feature that would be very exciting. However, the Optimus 7 makes this commonly routine task quite extraordinary. The reason that Scan Search is so special is because it provides an augmented reality experience. This is done by taking advantage of the phone’s built-in camera. With Scan Search, you can quickly get information about wherever you are. Because this information is coming to you in real-time, you will find it to be quite useful. Whether you are looking for a place to eat or somewhere to shop, you’ll be able to use this feature to quickly find the best option that’s available to you.

Google prepares the Android Market for Tablets

November 17th, 2010 1 Comment   Posted in Android OS, News

A few hours ago, Google sent a message to the registered authors of applications for Android, which informs them that for a period of six hours on November 18, they will not be able to publish new software or updates for existing on the Android Market. As a reason be stated routine maintenance, but the longer suspension may mean something else. It seems that Google is preparing for major changes in store for applications, as in the console publishing software now has new things. The site Android Police have noticed a new option for the publication of the icons of applications with higher resolution, larger images of the interface and even add a link to a promo video on YouTube. The new version of Android Market is likely to be presented shortly and is not excluded that to happen with the arrival of Android 2.3 Gingerbread. Adding graphics with higher resolution might suggest that Google is preparing a service for better compatibility with the tablets, but it is possible to launch a Web interface to access the store.

November 4th, 2010 No Comments   Posted in News, Windows Phone 7 Series

The shortage of new devices entering the market is becoming a tradition and not likely to change soon, because reason is a shortage of components. Microsoft can also say that phones with Windows Phone 7 do not reach the market for everyone to buy. And it’s not just one manufacturer of handsets, and for almost all companies that let devices with the new version of the platform. Feedback from the company’s theme soon becomes clear that the problem will be solved easily, so operators will have to carefully prioritize quantities of phones available, and the first to supply consumers ordered in advance phones. The problem is global and does not affect only certain countries, which in turn raises the question whether the American premiere of Windows Phone 7 will have enough phones to be sold in the U.S.. However, we will see next week, when on November 8, the platform will be presented to consumers across the ocean.

How-to keep your Android phone safe

September 22nd, 2010 No Comments   Posted in Android OS, News, Tweaks and Tricks

In the last time, some news run through the media about the first virus for Android. The supposed virus is hidden in an update of a multimedia program and sends SMSs to premium services, whose costs are paid by the owner of the infected phone. Even the less experienced computer user will ask himself if that is really a virus. A virus was normally considered a program which changed or interfered with your computer without your knowledge or permission. The last news about this virus did not match exactly the definition. It is more of a malware than a virus. If you got it, it was because you accepted to install it. It did not spread spontaneously through the net.

You might be a victim of these new malware program for Android. However, there are very simple tips to keep your Android smartphone safe.

10 tips before buying an Android phone

September 22nd, 2010 1 Comment   Posted in Android OS, News

1- Ask yourself: for what do I want it? Don’t buy the most expensive device, if you just want to check the news and keep in touch with friends. Any device provides you the functionality for that, even the lowest range of smartphones.

2- Ask yourself: how much do I want to spend? If money is not an issue for you, congratulations. Otherwise, set a budget and stick to it. Also remember that the latest hot Android smartphone released is just the second tier smartphone of tomorrow. Normally, you get more for your buck if you buy a device that has been for some time in the market.

3- Ask yourself: contract or pre-paid?  Do you want to pay little or nothing for your smartphone at the beginning and then  pay every month the purchase of the device? Or, otherwise, you are willing to pay in advance for the device, knowing that you’ll save in the long run, since you won’t use it much? In the former case, go with contract. In the later, with pre-paid.

These first points are, above all, to guide you economically in the purchase of an Android smartphone, personally I see no reason to buy an expensive device and getting what you don’t really need. In almost all cases, it is never wrong to buy a lower-middle range Android smartphone, since they are good enough for most purposes.

Now, let’s take a look at the technical specs:

You should wait for Windows Phone 7?

June 10th, 2010 3 Comments   Posted in News, Windows Phone 7 Series

While PC World considers Microsoft’s Windows Phone 7 to be late to the smartphone game, classic Windows Mobile is still in 3rd place in the market behind RIM and Apple. This article points out that the big reason that headline-grabbing Android and iPhone devices haven’t dominated the market is because of their lack-luster business support. If you’re a corporate user, chances are that Windows Phone 7 might be exactly what you need to surpass both the Blackberry’s messaging appeal and the aging iPhone aesthetics.
