Google+ yet another social network?

google+

Even though Wave was a failure and Buzz didn’t do much better, Google still hasn’t given up on the idea of having its own social network. It’s latest attempt is called Google+.This social network is made especially for easy on-the-go sharing, whilst surfing the Internet. It does resemble Facebook a bit, but it also has its own unique features – such as “Circles”. It allows you to group your friend so that you can for instance send an important business paper only to your colleagues and an invitation for a party only to you close friends – this way no one gets confused about “what you meant by this post”. Another cool feature is Hangout – it’s a group chat for you and up to 10 of your friends. So far the only way to register on Google+ is to get an invite as it is still a beta version. There is also a Google+ mobile app for Android and it will soon be followed by an iOS one.

Apple looking for a new processor supplier

June 30th, 2011 No Comments   Posted in Mobile phones, News

iphone-a5-processor

Due to the recent arguments between Apple and Samsung, Apple might be switching their main processor supplier. At the moment, they are using mainly Samsung’s 45 nm chips and TSMC (Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Company) is the alternative manufacturer of their A5 chips. TSMC is also ready to produce A5 28 nm processors which might give Apple the edge in mobile processing power.

The reason for Apple and Samsung “splitting up” is probably the complicated patent-lawsuit-position they are in at the moment. As we recently found out Apple are suing Samsung even in their home-country South Korea. Even though Apple are one of Samsung’s larger clients, they’re only generating a small part of their overall income.

A while back, Mozilla promised they would release a new version of Firefox every 3 months and so far they have kept their promise. Firefox 5 has just rolled out for all major platforms – Windows, Linux, OS X and of course Android. The most important new feature is the “Do Not Track” function that has been added to the mobile version of the browser. It allows you to control the way websites follow your activity while you’re surfing the internet. And another good thing is that a lot of add-ons have been added to customise the looks and functionality of the browser just the way you like it.

Lookout has found a new Android virus

June 23rd, 2011 No Comments   Posted in Android OS, News, Software

Android-Virus

Lookout Mobile Security has detected a new Android virus (a Trojan horse to be exact) named GGTracker. It has a very clever way of spreading itself – instead of putting it on the market its creators have put it in the adds on the free applications. When you click on the add it directs you to a website that looks like Android Market and from there you can install the virus – an app called “Battery saver” (or “Sexy pics” for the wankers). GGtracker sends expensive text messages and the worst part is you may not realize until you get the bill. Lookout say if you want full protection from the virus you should buy their Anti-virus app for Android, but if you are a bit more cautious you can avoid it anyway.

Android working on its own messenger

LG-Eve-GW620

Text messages seem to be at their end with more and more free messages coming out. A great example is Apple’s new iMessage service and ofcourse the BlackBerry Messenger. And it seems that Android is also working on its own messenger as a response to them. Interesting how the mobile operators will react to that, as they profitquite a lot from text messages – especially on holidays.
