ZTE Tania – the first Windows Phone powered device from ZTE

 

ZTE already introduced (in September 2011) it’s first smartphone powered by Windows Phone 7.5 (Mango) operating system – ZTE Tania. The new model is positioned as an affordable solution for the mass consumers market, although the manufacturer did not name the exact price of the device.

The upcoming ZTE Tania smartphone is equipped with a 4.3-inch display with a resolution of 800×480 pixels, single-core processor with a clock frequency of 1GHz, 512 megabytes of RAM and 4 GB of internal memory, 5 megapixel camera with autofocus, Bluetooth, Wi-Fi and a standard GPS receiver.

ZTE Tania will be released in Asia and Europe, but there is no official date yet.

Windows Phone SMS bug

Here is one of the latest problems with the Windows Phone OS – it turns out that SMS or chat messages from Facebook or Windows Live Messenger can disable the whole message hub directly to the operating system.

This bug is found in Windows Phone 7.5 Mango (versions 7720 and 7740) and most probably is defect in the platform itself, not in the particular device. After receiving a specially formatted message, the entire message section can not be used and you need to hard-reset the phone to fix it.

Lenovo to also release Windows Phone devices

Lenovo has confirmed the rumors, about it joining the Windows Phone device manufacturers team and have announced they will present their first device with the platform next year. Just days before the official confirmation of these rumors, pictures of the so called LePhone S2 running Windows Phone 7.5 Mango appeared online. According to Lenovo’s product manager in charge of the LePhone series, the company has already developed a market strategy and according to it LePhones running Windows Phone are scheduled to appear in the second half of 2012. It’s still not clear if these phone are going to be sold worldwide or just in China, but either way this is good for Microsoft, who are trying to strengthen their positions on the mobile market. The Marketplace should also be released soon in China – most likely in the beginning of 2012. B. A.

A new designer phone from LG

About a months ago we found out LG are going to partner with yet another fashion brand from the Prada family - Jil Sander and as a result of that, there’re going to release a new and exlusive fashion-phone running Windows Phone 7. The device is currently known as just LG E906 and relies on a 1 gHz single-core processor, a 3.8″ display with a 800×480 resolution and is running Windows Phone Mango. The device’s camera is a 5MP one, which records 720p HD video and even has a flash. The phone could make a great Christmas gift – the price for the UK is £280, which is more than acceptable for a designer smartphone with up-to-date specifications. B. A.

Windows Marketplace reaches 35,000 apps for one year

 

Just one year after Windows Marketplace was released for WP users, it reached 35 000 applications. The statistic doesn’t come from MIcrosoft, but from a site called WP7applist, which follows the development of the Marketplace. From the 35 000+ available apps, 52% are free and the average price for the paid ones is $1.70. We remind you, that in April the market had reached 15,000 apps and according to WP7applist there are 191 apps released on it daily. We should receive more information this Wednesday and Thursday, during the Nokia World event in London, where Nokia’s first WP devices should also be presented. A lot of Microsoft’s employees, responsible for Windows Phone will also talk during the event. B. A.

Nokia Lumia 800 Sim Free

Nokia – the mobile giants have not only announced a new handset this week, but we’ve also managed to source some new headphones they’ve collaborated with Monster on. The handset, the Nokia Lumia 800 Sim Free is the first Nokia handset to feature Windows Phone 7.5 Mango.  It sports a 3.7″ capacitive touchscreen and doesn’t have any menu buttons on the front of the handset.

 

It’s a gorgeous and bright looking handset, which has features perfect for work and play – Microsoft Office programmes for work and People Hub for play.  It also runs Internet Explorer 9 and has built in GPS settings, so you can’t get lost.  Nokia Lumia 800 will be selling the handset for £469.95 and it’ll be available Sim Free from the 5th January.
