The iPad with 68% market share

There can’t really be anyone, who doubts the iPad’s current state as the most popular device on the tablet market and the data published by IDC proves this fact once again. The company have revealed their statistics for tablet sales in the first quarter of 2012, during which Apple’s device has managed to increase its market share up to 68%, despite the fact, that the total number of devices sold has went down from 15,4 million to 11,8 million.

In comparison, at the end of last year, the iPad has had a market share of 54,7% At this point, you might be wondering at whose expense Apple are increasing their market share and, if that’s the case, you should probably take a closer look at Amazon’s results. Despite the 16,8% market share, which the Kindle Fire had just months ago (at the end of last year) , the device is responsible for just 4% of the tablet sales for Q1 of 2012, which sets it in third position. Between Amazon and Apple stands, of course, the Korean giant – Samsung, while the fourth and fifth places are held by Lenovo and Barnes&Noble with their Nook. B. A.

Google Drive finally released

After months of rumors about Google’s cloud service, known as Drive, it has finally been released. The applications allows not only storing files, such as pictures, music, etc., online, but also makes them available for viewing and downloading from multiple devices – currently it’s supported by Windows, Mac and Android with iPhone, iPad and Linux versions coming soon. Google Drive comes with 5GB of free storage space and, of course, you can upgrade your account later on. Prices start from just $2.49 per month for 25GB, through $4.99 for 100GB and than continue to go up by $5 for every 100GB. The largest amount of space you can get is 16TB, which is going to set you back by $799.99 monthly.

Thanks to its integration with Google’s other services, Drive is going to be especially appealing to people, who already use such Google services and/or have an Android device. Some of these tempting features are the integration with Google Docs, which allows different users to comment on and even edit the same document simultaneously. Some other interesting features are the possibility to attach documents, which are stored online, to emails and Drive’s ability to recognize text in scanned documents and search for certain words or phrases. Australia wants Apple to change the name of the new iPad 4G

After having to give back the money of the Australian customers, who felt mislead by the 4G capabilities of the new iPad, which aren’t compatible with their local networks, Apple are facing yet more legal problems in the country. A local commission, responsible for the user rights, has demanded, that the American company changes the name of their device. The current one – iPad 3 WiFi+4G, is quite inaccurate in this case, because while the tablet does feature an LTE chip, it doesn’t work with the local networks (and in most other countries outside the US, actually) because of incompatibility with the network frequencies. Apple however have refused to comply, which means that the issue is going to have to be settled in court. The good news is, that the commission is ready to sue the American giant in order to protect users’ rights. B.A.

Windows 8 preparing for an aggressive attack against the iPad

Microsoft and their partners are planning on launching an aggressive attack on Apple’s iPad and its market share this fall, according to new information, which recently appeared online. That’s when the next generation of Windows – 8, is going to be released and Microsoft and Intel are stimulating big mobile device manufacturers to assault Apple.

Currently the iPad has about a 70% share of the tablet market, but if Windows 8 turns out to be a success, Microsoft reckon it can be brought down to 50% by the middle of next year. By this year’s end we should see more than 30 tablets with this new platform with prices starting at less than $300, so there is definitely a huge potential. Still, judging by Windows Phone current state, even innovative platforms with a friendly and simple user interface sometimes turn out to be unsuccessful. B. A.

The new iPad’s Wi-Fi problems may be fixable with a software update

You might recall, that one of the unresolved issues with the new iPad 3 is connected with its Wi-Fi capabilities, from which some users are complaining. While we’re still waiting for Apple to come out with an official statement on the subject, the hardware expert Aaron Vronko, CEO of Rapid Repair, has stated that in his opinion, the problem might be solvable with a software update.

According to the symptoms, which have been reported by users, the problem isn’t a hardware one, because if that was the case, the issues with the tablet’s Wi-Fi capabilities would be much more general. We’re really hoping, that he turns out to be right, because a software update would be the simplest decision for all of the users out there, who are experiencing problems with their new device. B. Max Payne Mobile for Android and iOS devices

Rockstar Games announced that on April 12, the well known PC game Max Payne will be available for all iOS users , two weeks later Max Payne mobile will be also available and for every Android powered device as well. The original PC game debuted in 2001 and the mobile version will provide the gamers with high resolution textures (HD graphics), the ability to modify the controls and touchscreen options for communication between players through a Social Club.

The following iOS devices will be compatible with Max Payne Mobile: iPhone 3GS, iPhone 4, iPhone 4S, iPod Touch 4, iPad, iPad 2 and the new iPad 3. Rockstar Games will also announce the system requirements for all Android devices soon, but currently they are unclear.

The mobile version of the game is tied to the advertising campaign for the upcoming Max Payne 3, which will debut on May18 for PC, PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360. The title will rely on the RAGE and Euphoria engine, the third part will be again in third person action and its writer is Dan Houser.

Apple Offering Refunds to Disappointed Australian iPad Oowners

Apple have taken actions, because of the accusations about them misleading Australian users, claiming that the new iPad 3 has support for 4G even in Australia. The device, of course, doesn’t have a problem with the use of 4G networks, but there are currently no operators in Australia, which use the same technology as the one used in Apple’s new tablet. The American company however has solved the problem very delicately, offering disappointed users a refund and putting signs in their stores, warning potential buyers.

Additionally, they’re going to inform the people, who already bough the new iPad 3 / iPad HD, with an email. Meanwhile Swedish and UK users are also experiencing similar problems with the 4G connection. In Sweden, for instance, there is a fully developed LTE network, but it’s practically unusable, because of the iPad’s support for just 700 MHz and 2100 MHz frequencies. B. A.

iPad 3 Unboxing Video

The Vietnamese site Tinhte.vn posted the first iPad 3 unboxing video last night!

The video shows some noticeable changes like the LTE toggle in the Settings screen (only for iPad 3 4G model), and also the camera lens on the back are larger.
