Mozilla launching Fennec 2.0 alpha in coming weeks

To many it seems as if Fennec for Android has moved extremely slowly, without much progress. Personally, I feel like it has been in Alpha for such a long time.  Today, however,  I learned that Fennec for Android Alpha will be entering 2.0 in a few short weeks. New features (in alpha or planned) include Firefox sync, Find-In-Page, link sharing, autofilling using information from your address book, and multi-touch gestures (alongside the already implemented pinch-to-zoom). In other words its shaping up to become a lot better!

Up until now, many of you have held off downloading it because of the instability of the build and the size of the file(it is over 25 mb). Maybe this  2.0 alpha has features that will make some of you change your mind.

Oh right, one last thing, Mozilla is also planning for beta testing this fall! This thing just might launch officially in Q4. Can’t wait for that if it happens.

Mozilla Firefox Fennec shows off on Google Nexus One and Motorola Droid

The dreams come true to all mobile users out there – a better browser comes to the market, there is a lot of rumors about Mozilla’s Fennec, but nothing about the Android version of this mobile Firefox browser until today. We have two photos that shows Nexus One and Motorola Droid running a full (landscape mode too), non-mobile optimized version of Mozilla Firefox. Now, it seems that with the full version working well, some of Firefox’s features have been ported to its mobile cousin called Fennec on the Android platform. At this point, the shots are just being teased around and no release date has been established.

Fennec beta 4 for Windows Mobile is ready to download

This is fourth alpha version version of Fennec for Windows Mobile. This release is provided for testing purposes only, intended to:

• Get wider feedback on our approach to the user experience
• Engage Mozilla community teams, including localizers, and testers
• Get feedback from Web developers
• Encourage add-on developers to port existing add-ons and invent new ones for mobile

Fennec is built on the same browser engine as the desktop Firefox 3.6 with some extensive under the hood work to optimize for mobile. These key design principles are at the heart of the browsing experience: minimize typing, let the Web have center stage, and personalize your browser, to name a few. Fennec 1.1 alpha 1 for Windows Mobile includes some of your favorite features including the Awesome Bar, Weave Sync, add-ons, and Location-Aware Browsing.

Fennec Alpha 3 for Windows Mobile released

Mozilla released the latest alpha version of their new mobile browser Fennec for Windows Mobile Phones. It brings many new features and fixes, such as improved startup time and a caching system to help scrolling on a page. They have also added support for a wider range of screen resolutions, and for those of us running an HTC Touch Pro support for zoom via the directional pad has been included in this release. Being an alpha release, it’s still a bit on the buggy side, but is very a promising browser for mobile phones. The final release should give other browsers a run for their money. mainostoimisto
