Blue Notify – Facebook notification app for Android phones
Blue Notify is an application that has one main function, to notify you when you get a Facebook notification. The first version is out and is available on Android Market at the price of £0.79. Search for “Blue Notify” on Market.

Installation:
Download the mobile installer (.cab file) to your desktop. Sync with your mobile phone and copy the .cab installer to your phone. The Installer should do the rest, or navigate to http://get.mosko.mobi on your Windows Phone, choose open, the installer should do the rest.

Samsung Galaxy S vs. HTC Wildfire
The Galaxy S was originally announced at the same time as the Samsung Wave but with Samsung focusing on their new Bada operating system, the Android running Galaxy S was surprisingly pushed to one side. Well, it’s now launch time for the Galaxy S and WOW. What a handset. Until now the best phone out there was the HTC Desire with iPhone 4 waiting to knock it off the top spot. That’s all going to change now and it’s definitely a three horse race.
The Galaxy S matches both the iPhone 4 and Desire in specs, beating them on a couple of points. It runs Android 2.1 – currently the best alternative to iPhone that there is, and it sports a superb Super AMOLED display. Samsung have customised the Android interface on the Galaxy S to bring it in line with the appearance of the rest of the handset range, and they’ve done a great job. There’s no duplication of apps like there is with the HTC Sense UI that’s found on the Desire.
If you don’t want to wait in line on Thursday for an iPhone, or simply want a phone that’s just as good for a lot less money, then the Galaxy S should be your only choice.
The HTC Wildfire is a junior version of the HTC Desire. It has the same slim, stylish look to it and a much lower price tag. In order to make a more affordable version of the Desire, some of the specs have been turned down a little. The screen resolution is a reduced, as is the processor speed and internal memory.
The HTC Sense UI has had a bit of a make over on the Wildfire and there are a number of new features, most of which are based around social networking. A couple of stand out ones are that Caller ID is now integrated with Facebook, so when someone calls you, as well as seeing their photo and phone number, you’ll also see their Facebook Status. You’re also able to see the latest posts and updates from facebook, twitter and flickr all in one place and on the same screen. No more switching between apps to check what’s going on.
The Wildfire still boasts a 5 MP camera with smile detection, capacitive touch screen, GPS and it runs the Android 2.1 operating ssytem. It’s quite a bit smaller and lighter than the Desire too, so if you’re new to touchscreen phones and don’t want something too big and bulky, this is a great choice.

Microsoft has released official Windows Live Messenger software for the iPhone and it includes some features not available even on Windows Mobile. According to Neowin, the new Windows Live for iPhone app supports Messenger Social features that include “friends’ photos and status updates from Windows Live, Facebook, and MySpace, and at a glance, see what your Messenger friends are sharing from Flickr, YouTube, and many other social and photo sharing sites.” The Windows Mobile 6.5 version of Windows Live only supports status updates and photos from Windows Live friends.

Microsoft Facebook 1.2 for Windows Mobile
This Facebook version is out on the Windows Marketplace for Professional devices so it should work on every WM6.5.x touchscreen phone and any screen resolution.

ShopSavvy was featured heavily in T-Mobile’s first TV ad (the one where they all start dancing in the train station). It allows you to scan in the barcode of a product using your phone’s camera and it will then compare prices locally and online so that you can check to make sure you’re getting the best deal.
You can also see reviews of the product and set the app to alert you when the price of the item falls below a set limit. This is a great app that is currently only available on Android.
ShopSavvy for Android
I’ve been using Movies on my iPhone for about a year now and it’s definitely one of the best movie apps available, so when I saw it available for Android it’s gone straight into my top ten. Movies allows you to search for nearby cinemas using your GPS location, search by film, see upcoming films & trailers and share ratings with your friends on Facebook. It provides contact details for all cinemas, but lacks the ability to book your tickets through the app – hopefully this is on it’s way.
Opera Mini is probably the most popular third party web browser that you can get for mobile phones. Instead of rendering pages in the standard way, your request to view the page is handled by Opera’s servers instead of the phone. This process strips out any unneccessary information and compresses the data being sent to your phone. Not particularly exciting to the end user, but what it does mean is that your web pages load almost twice as fast as they would using the default browser – especially when you’re connected to 3G.
Augmented Reality is still the next big thing to hit Smartphones. Layar is still leading the way, but we’re still way off from it being a llife changing app! Having said that Layar really takes a step in the right direction. If you’ve not come across augmented reality before it’s where the ‘real world’ and internet based information services come together.
Your Desire uses its GPS and compass to determine where you are and which way you’re facing and then uses the camera to show your surroundings on screen. Augmented reality applications such as Layar then display information on top of what you’re look at – hence the name. These ‘layers’ of information can be turned on or off and there are layers available to show you information such as nearest cashpoints, train stations hotels – even which of your friends are nearby.
As you move the camera around this information updates in real time, with Icons on screen indicating where things are. To find out more information about a hotel for example, just press it’s icon and you’ll be presented with information such as address, phone number, website, reviews etc. It’s still in its early stages but it’s growing quickly and you now have a number of ‘layers’ that you can turn on and off as and when you want..
I’m still not a huge Twitter fan, but this app is highly rated by staff and customers.Twidroid used to be the leader in twitter apps on Android but Seesmic has knocked it off it’s perch.
Seesmic shows more than just your friends tweets. It brings all your timelines into one simple screen, allows you to share videos, photos and location information with your tweets as well as the usual direct messaging and tweeting options.
Meebo is an Instant messaging application that allows you to communicate with your friends regardless of the messaging program that they’re using. Meebo can connect to AIM, Yahoo Messenger, Google Talk/Jabber, MSN, ICQ, Facebook Chat & MySpace IM using just one log in.
I loved this on the Hero and still love it on the Desire. It uses your location to adjust settings on your phone. It might seem a little confusing at first, but you can program your phone to perform certain functions when you get to predefined locations. For example – You can set the phone to remind you to charge your battery when you walk through your front door or you can set it to switch to silent mode as soon as you arrive at the cinema.
Recent updates to the app allow it to post messages to twitter when you get to work or sms relatives when you’ve arrived home. The list is endless and you can configure it to do exactly what you want.
Locale for Android
This is one of those apps that really makes you wonder how they do it. Shazam has been around for a few years now, but instead of paying premium rates for dialling 2580 on your mobile, you now have a free of charge app that can tag songs for you.
If you’ve not come across Shazam before, it’s a music tagging system. If you hear a song that you like but don’t know what it is, launch the app, press ‘tag now’ and hold the phone towards the speaker. Within seconds you’ll get information on the song, including Name, Artist, Album, Year of release, Amazon MP3 Store link, Artist MySpace Page and YouTube Video Links. It’s amazingly fast and surprisingly accurate.

HTC has released two official updates for the HTC HD2 available on the UK Support website.
1. Update for HTC HD2 Facebook Albums
According to the description, “this update for your phone’s Facebook client restores the ability to view your friends’ photo albums”. I personally never had any issues with Facebook photo albums.
2. Update for HTC HD2 Java Message Pop up
This update seems to fix a security issue by preventing “javascript messages from automatically opening when the message notification pops up. This will prevent your phone from opening unwanted and unwelcome applications that are sent to you”.

Facebook app for Zune HD – let’s see Windows Phone 7 Series apps interface
Here is the Facebook application for Zune HD, it has elements of the Metro interface that Microsoft is using on Windows Phone 7 Series devices, and so looking at the this rendition of Facebook, we can get a sense for how other apps would look on Windows Phone 7 Series.

Facebook 1.2 for Windows Mobile phones
Version 1.2 for touchscreens seems to be identical to the one released for WM Standard, except the version number has been bumped slightly to 1.1.0.17. There are probably some performance improvements and bug fixes under the hood, but let us know if you guys notice anything different! Check it out on the web or hit up Windows Mobile Marketplace on your device for the download. If you installed the ported version from XDA, we recommend you uninstall that first to prevent any issues.
