June 9th, 2012 No Comments   Posted in News, Tablets, Windows 8

Acer set the beginning of the Computex expo, which is being held in Taiwan this week, with a few devices running Windows 8. Aside from an interesting ultrabook, called the Aspire S7, the company announced a couple of tablets – the W510 and W700, both of which work with Microsoft’s new platform and can be used along with an additional keyboard.

We’ll start of with the Acer W510 – the “little brother”, which actually has a 10.1″ IPS display and will probably rely on a Intel Clovertrail processor. Sadly, these are the only deatils we currently know about the technical specifications, pricing or even release date, but with the launch of Windows 8 getting closer, we should learn these details quite soon. What we currently know, though, is that the device can be used with a keyboard-dock, which also features an additional battery prolonging its battery life to up to 18 hours. The keyboard could also be turned around to 295° in order to be used as a stand.

The other one – Acer W700, of course, is more powerful and interesting and – with its 11,6″ Full HD display, actually bigger. The device probably features an Intel Ivy Bridge ULV processor, with which its battery should last about 8 hours, but than again it also comes with a special dock, which not only has an additional battery, but also adds 3 USB 3.0 ports and can be used by the user to place their device in a number of different positions. The tablet itself, which the company claims can be used as a normal computer, features not only the standart HDMI and USB (3.0 to be exact) ports, but even a Thunderbolt one. According to the current information, prices are going to start from $799 and will reach $999. B. A.

The Transformer Prime now has a competitor and it comes as no surprise that it’s coming from Acer. The company has just announced their quad-core device at CES 2012 and if anything, it’s even better than the Prime. The device is going to be called the Iconia Tab A700 (not quite as cool as ASUS’ device) and was briefly shown at the company’s conference with the rest of i’s specifications revealed later.

The device is quite powerful – it relies on Nvidia’s Tegra 3 processor, just like the Prime, and it also features a Full HD display, which is quite a significant upgrade. Software wise, the device is running Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich and its going to hit the market in Q2 this year – sadly, a bit later than expected. B. A.

Even though an advertisement of the Iconia A200 was published on YouTube a few days ago, the tablet was officially released just now. Along with the release, most unknown details about the device were also announced. Perhaps the most interesting one is that the device is going to starts selling running Android Honeycomb, but will get an update to Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich very soon – in January. So far the price for this tablet hasn’t been announced, but it’s expected to be cheaper than the Iconia A500.

The tablet is powered by a Tegra 2 dual-core processor and has 1GB of RAM memory. It’s screen is 10.1″ in diagonal and has a resolution of 1280×800. located above it is the only camera – a 2MP front-facing one. The tablet comes with 8 or 16GB of built-in memory, but it also has a microSD card slot and a full-sized USB port. The battery is 3260 mAh, which may not be enough for this sort of a screen. Still, if the A200 comes at a reasonable price, it could become quite popular. B. A.

Two tablets leak on Acer’s website – A700 and A701

November 17th, 2011 No Comments   Posted in News, Tablets

acer-a700-a701-tablets

Recently we wrote about Acer’s A510 and A511 tablets, which are going to run Tegra 3, but as it turns out, the company is going to release more tablets based on the quint-core chip – two other devices are showing up as hardware profiles at the company’s support website. According to it, the models are names A700 and A701 – once again, probably Wi-Fi only and Wi-Fi + 3G versions of the same tablet, and their specifications are even more impressive. Even though this device shares the same processor as the A510, its (probably 10″) screen has an incredible 1920×1200 resolution – something normally seen in 40″+ TV’s. That’s about all the information we have at this point, but stay tuned for more.

Acer also working on a Tegra 3 tablet

November 16th, 2011 No Comments   Posted in News, Tablets

asus-tegra-3-tablet

ASUS are going to be the first company to release a Tegra 3 powered tablet, but all major mobile device companies are expected to follow their lead in the coming months. Most of them will be unveiled at CES in the beginning of 2012 and among them will be at least one tablet from Acer. The reason we think so are the names A510 and A511 on Acer’s website – most likely a Wi-Fi and a Wi-Fi + 3G version of the same device. According to the (not exactly official) information on the website, the device will have the same hardware as the Transformer Prime – from the Tegra 3 processor to the 1280×800 10″ display. We’re hoping to receive more information soon.
