Samsung Epix official Windows Mobile 6.5 ROM update
July 8th, 2010 Posted in News, ROM Updates

Great news for all Samsung Epix owners, almost 9 months after the official release of Windows Mobile 6.5 they have finally released an update to the latest version of Microsoft’s mobile OS (if we don’t count WM 6.5.3).
Windows Mobile 6.5 does bring new features, such as improved memory management and greater stability, so I am sure the update is worthwhile, despite the massive delay.

The update is one of those be careful what you wish for things.
It is not a good fit for the hardware because it favours finger touches over the mouse cursor.
Examples:
1. the battery icon is no longer responds to clicks because the space has been assigned to the “X” icon to make a larger target for fingers.
2. the today screen does not display completely and needs to be dragged to get to the offscreen areas. very awkward with a mouse
3. the start menu is a complete mess. again with the need to drag, but no scroll bars for mouse assistance. it also does not let you return to an interrupted operation. so finish that email before hitting the start menu to look at something else.
If you go for 6.5 plan to stay there or be really good at dredging up 6.1 roms to reflash.
BTW, it takes significantly longer to boot.
The bottom line is that a well tuned 6.1 is far better than 6.5 for habitual keyboard and mouse users.
