How much money have you got lying around your home?
Sometimes you get lucky and find a money bill hiding in the back pockets of an old pair of jeans, or you might find some change lying behind the couch. This is always a pleasant little surprise, but you have a lot more money lying around the house than you might realize.
We’re not necessarily talking about physical money here, though you should check all your books for some hidden money bills you might have forgotten about! What we’re talking about is money in the form of unneeded items lying around your house that you could easily make money from.
In difficult economic times like these, you’d be surprised how many people are interested in buying things you no longer need via online marketplaces.

Google accusing Microsoft and Nokia in patent abuse
Google have stated, that they have filed a complaint to the European Commission, in which they’re accusing Microsoft and Nokia in a conspiracy for using their joined patents against their competitors on the mobile market. According to Google, the two companies have transferred 1200 of their patents to the MOSAID organisation, which the internet giant claims to be a patent troll – the definition of a company, which collects patents just in order to use them aggressively in the court. This leads to higher prices of the smartphones for the customers of Nokia and Microsoft’s competitors, which is, of course, bad for everyone, but these two companies.
The FOSSpatents website on the other hand has said, that this complaint has already been denied 3 times from the American organisation ITC. Microsoft have also made a comment on the accusation, rendering it a desperate move from the company, which, as Microsoft reminds us, controls over 95% of the mobile search and advertisement market. Microsoft developing their own social network
At the moment all of the digital giants are concentrating on two things – mobile operating systems and social networks. We know Android is the leader in mobile platforms and it’s going to stay this way for the next few years, but with social networks things are quite different – Facebook is the leader, but it’s losing more and more people every day. Meanwhile, Google just released their own network a couple of weeks ago and they already have millions of users, even though the only way to register is with an invitation. And Microsoft have just revealed (by mistake) that they’re working on their own social network called Tulalip (?!). It’s homepage was published online at socl.com, but was then quickly removed. At the moment the website only contains a text saying it’s “an internal design project from a team in Microsoft Research which was mistakenly published to the web. ” and wasn’t meant to be published. Netbooks with ARM processors running Android?
DigiTimes has published some interesting information according to which several computer/laptop/etc. manufacturers including ASUS, Acer, Samsung and Toshiba are developing netbooks with ARM processors running surprisingly not Chrome OS but Android. The reason for their choice, is that users are not yet ready to fully accept cloud-based technologies. On the other hand, Android already has a great user and developer community and that makes it the perfect OS for portable devices like these. According to DigiTimes, ASUS are going to reveal a 13″ Android netbook soon and about a month or two later the Eee Pad Slider.

What to Look for in a Web Host
When it comes to selecting a web host, there are a lot of options available. However, all of these options are far from being equal. In order to avoid a major headache and get the most for your money, you need to know what to look for in a web host.
To begin with, while many hosts will try to upsell you to their VPS hosting or a dedicated server, when you’re starting out, all you need is a shared hosting plan. Not only will a good web host allow you to host as many websites as you want with one shared hosting plan, but if necessary, it will also be easy to upgrade to VPS hosting or a dedicated server down the line.
The next factor you want to look into is the uptime and performance of the host. Even if you’re only paying $1 a month, if the websites you are hosting are constantly down, or they take a long time to load, you are still wasting your money. If a host can’t provide you with a legitimate 99.9% uptime guarantee, there’s no reason to choose them.
Next on your list of considerations should be the company’s support. Do they only allow you to contact their support via email, or do they provide additional options as well? Does the company regularly back up your important data? Because some issues simply can’t be avoided, the quality of the company’s support will determine whether the issue is simply a minor annoyance, or a significant problem for you. While you can get information about the company’s support from their website, you will be able to get a real feel for what their support is like by reading reviews from other customers.
Another important factor to consider is what features the host offers. While many features will be nothing more than bells and whistles, there are some that are very important. For example, does the host provide you with an unlimited number of MySQL databases, or do they limit the number you can create? Do they provide multiple support for languages like PHP 5, Ruby on Rails and Python? Is their control panel cPanel?
Depending your level of technical skill, you may also want to know what kind of website building and script installation tools they offer. If you are fairly inexperienced, tools like SiteBuilder, SiteStudio and one click installations of popular scripts like WordPress can be incredibly helpful.
Also, while it’s not a crucial factor, you may be interested in finding out if the company offers any bonuses. For example, when you sign up, will you receive any Google AdWords, Facebook or other advertising credits?
Finally, price should definitely play a role in your decision. When it comes to shared hosting, you shouldn’t have to pay more than $10 to $15 a month for a fully featured shared hosting account.
For a host that meets all of this criteria, you can read a detailed HostGator review.
