Vonage Mobile – the best free calling app for Android and iPhone
Vonage is a new mobile VoIP application, which has recently arrived on the Android Market and Apple’s App Store. The app is supposed to compete with Skype and according to it’s creators, it provides 30% cheaper conversations in 50 countries, based on the per-minutes rates + free international mobile calls (device-to-device).
The first time you start up the Vonage Mobile® application, you’re going to go through a quick setup and the app is going to ask for your mobile email, country of residence and mobile number. The latter is verified in the next step with either an SMS or a phone call. After that, it’s just a matter of synching your contacts and the application is ready for use – overall it’s very easy to install.
Vonage Mobile doesn’t limit calls to people with the app, or even to people who have a smartphone. You can call direct from Vonage Mobile to virtually any phone number on the planet. You can dial internationally without needing to activate special services with your mobile carrier. And most importantly, you can do this with the address book on your phone and your existing mobile number.
The interface of the application is also very nice – it’s divided in five sections: Contacts, Recent, Keyboard, Chats and Balance and some of them have their subsections, for instance, Contacts has three : All, Free Calls and Invite. Overall the UI is very well thought out and looks very polished.
Vonage Mobile® also has a few tricks up its sleeve. First of all it uses a special high-definition audio codec, which means it’s able to provide exceptional call-quality at speeds of just 64KBps, which is very impressive. This is certainly noticeable in real life, as we also found the sound quality was very good. Another nice feature is the in-app billing, which lets you charge your Vonage account through the Android Market or Apple’s App Store, so you don’t even have to share your credit card details with the application – there are two credit packs – $4.99 and $9.99.
Overall, this is a great iPhone and Android calling app and we strongly recommend it.
Download Vonage Mobile® now and check it out on your iPhone or Android phone. Invite your family and friends so you have someone to text or call, then let us know what you think – click here for direct download to your device.
Whether your phone is connected over 4G, 3G, or Wi-Fi, your entire address book is only a tap away. Just remember that calls still use a portion of your data plan!

How-to fix bubbles, dirt or fingerprints behind your screen protector
For all the people that have bubbles, lint, dirt or fingerprints behind their phones screen protector from a fumble or rushed, botched install – here is the guide:
It is a little known fact that “most” of the screen protectors are completely washable. The “sticky” side wont wash off or smear or in any way ruin.
How-to:
1. Peel it off.
2. Run under water and use your hand to remove lint, dirt specs, smudges ect.
3. Hold by the corner tightly (little as possible) with an absorbant towel and shake vigorously in front of a fan or air purifier (better) until completly dry.
NOTE. Slowly air drying will leave water spots from impurities in the water. Purified water may solve this problem.
4. Clean the screen.
5. Reapply the protector, but carefully this time.
6. Repeat if necessary for perfect clean lay.

Windows Phone 7 on HTC HD2 – DFT video preview
Evereytnihg works, minimal changes are needed in the future updates:
- Phone functions are working: call answer, dial without problems and good sound quality, speaker volume is very large, volume +,- keys works fine. During a call when you can adjust the volume.
- Camera works, all the features available, including the 720P video. (Photo-Flash sync is slightly buggy, better make photos without flash). Green camera can be used for camera activation.
- WiFi turn on, turn off, fast, and works for available networks properly, unable to make detailed settings (common WP7 system issue).
- Bluetooth functional normally, but have not detailed settings (common WP7 system issue).
- Sync with the Zune works.
- Accelerometer works, autorotation works with beautiful effects.
- Screen brightness control can be manually controlled. Automatic works fine too.
- Ability to choose custom wallpaper works.
- Lock screen, unlock correctly, including password.
To synchronize contacts / calendar / email, you need to manually set up an account on Hotmail. Using MS Hotmail Connector you can synchronize the device with Outlook.
Hard reset:
During boot, until the screen displays the \ “1234 \”, then hold VolumeUP + VolumeDown, and do not let the buttons go until you see the message. Double-click VolumeDown to clean the data.
SD-card:
SD card will be available for Windows only, if it is in the device during the first boot. Removing the SD-card would entail the destruction of user data, and will need a hard reset! NOT all the SD-cards are compatible with WP7. If your card is not compatible with WP7, it will not be used to store data and can cause random reboots. WARNING: WP7 format the SD-card during the first boot. On the SD-card will be created two partitions during the \ “cold \” upload. First – FAT-partition 200Mb, and the second in an unknown format – used in a RAID-e, together with main memory.
Supported cards list:
So first SD Card witch is compatible is the SanDisk 8GB class 2 micro SD card.
- SanDisk microSDHC_8GB
SDSDQY-8192-A11M
- SanDisk microSDHC_16GB
SDSDQY-016G-A11M
- SanDisk microSDHC_32GB
SDSDQ-032G-A11M
- SanDisk microSDHC_4GB
SDSDQ-004G-A11M
-SanDisk microSD_2 GB
SDSDQ-002G-A11M
The overall feeling is, turn on quickly, into the system for about 20 seconds, memory control system runs extremely smooth, very good. Comes with original programs click on it again, almost cotton feel to the system, you can say speed of first-class, stable. Very good, however, the shutdown is very slow!

Replacing the HTC HD7 SD card for more storage
You can safely replace the internal microSD card in the HD7 to increase storage space (up to 32GB cards) and maybe even performance.
Warning: This mod will void your HTC HD7 warranty!
What you need:
- One or two plastic opening tools, you can use this.
- A T5 Torx screwdriver
One of the following microSD cards:
- Sandisk Class 4 8GB microSD – SDSDQ-008G-J35A (used in 8GB version)
- Sandisk Class 4 16GB microSD – SDSDQ-016G-J35A (used in 16GB version, tested)
- Sandisk Class 2 32GB microSD – SDSDQM-032G-B35 (tested)
First you need to disconnect all cables and turn off your phone by pressing and holding the power button, now remove the top back cover, the battery and your SIM card. The red dots on the bottom back panel with the metal strip indicate two hinges which face towards the bottom of the phone. You need to use the plastic opening tools in the green marked areas in the image linked above and thrust the bottom cover towards the battery area to remove it without damaging it. Now if that’s done, get your screwdriver ready and unscrew all the screws marked with the yellow/green circles. One of them has a tiny warranty sticker on it. If you removed all the screws and put them in a safe place, lift up the cover, you can do that using the kickstand, don’t worry, even though you removed two screws there, it’s not loose.

Upgradeable memory confirmed for HTC Surround
It doesn’t seem that difficult to get to actually, just a bit of disassembly required. It apparently comes with a SanDisk Class 4 16GB microSD card.
There are 9 screws to remove from the Surround before you can get to the two PCBs inside, and with it, the microSD card. Four of the screws are tiny phillips heads, the remaining 5 are Torx T-5 screws. Two of the Torx screws are marked with void stickers that must be perforated to unscrew the screws, so be warned. Disassembly is relatively easy though.
There’s been a bit of confusion about to what extent Microsoft supports users upgrading storage on their own with a microSD card of their choice. There’s a Microsoft knowledge base document now posted about it, but the state of affairs still remains confusing. The long and short of it is that only certain microSD cards meet the requisite performance requirements to be considered compatible with WP7. SD card class refers solely to sequential write performance (the class number refers directly to the speed in MB/s), but says nothing about that all-important 4K random read/write speed. Because WP7 uses onboard flash and the storage card in a JBOD, it’s possible that after you fill up the internal NAND and start writing on the microSD part of the storage space, some applications will feel fast, others slow. Interestingly, the card in the HTC Surround is just a class 4 16 GB SanDisk.
The other interesting thing is that cards initialized on WP7 are locked to a specific device, and moreover, stop being recognized on the desktop – perhaps permanently. I took the card out of the Surround and spent considerable time trying to make it format, first on Windows, then OSX, and finally linux by trying to write zeros and random data to the disk using dd. This failed, as I only managed to get ‘medium not present’ errors every step of the way – in fdisk, gparted, every trick I know for really nuking storage. If you decide to upgrade your WP7 device, just be warned that it’s probably one-way for your card.
